About The Department
The Department of English of Prof. S.N.H.College, Farakka was established at the point of inception of the college in the year 1994. Initially English as compulsory subject and Elective English were taught by part-time teachers. Mr. Deepanjan Chakrabarty joined this college as first full-time lecturer in the year 2000. In the year 2005, English as Honours subject was introduced. Mrs. Sujata Bose joined the college as Contractual Lecturer. Since then, English as Honours and General subject has been taught here. The result of the students in both Honours and General streams has been more or less good, considering the fact that many of them are first generation learners and belong to the backward communities. Mrs. Sujata Bose joined this college as full-time Assistant Professor in the year 2019. Mr. Deepanjan Chakrabarty has been the Head of the Department since 2000. Currently there are about 500 students in Honours and Major subject. There are 7 SACT teachers, 2 Assistant Professors in the Department. Classes have been allotted as per norms. Online classes are also conducted for the smooth completion of the syllabus. Students are disciplined and participate in cultural programmes very often. They also bring out wall magazines regularly. The teachers impart quality teaching with utmost dedication and sincerity. The Department of English is making steady progress with the assistance of the authority and the honourable Principal Dr. Captain Sibasish Banerjee.
